Abstract

The technological advances introduced in the weapons systems during the twentieth century have transcended the specific military developments, affecting societies at all levels and conditioning their progress. New weapons systems appeared, whose effects do not fall only on the combatant forces, but rapidly spread to the population not involved in combat and the environment of the area where such weapons are used. The use of these weapons exceeds the regular forces of the nations being within the reach of irregular groups and terrorists. The attacks in Syria, Malaysia, the Tokyo metro and even in London, have caused the nations to reconsider the active and passive measures to be used to protect their citizens. Among the most important measures to adopt is to disseminate knowledge, this is precisely the purpose sought by this article.
